    The children in Reception have had a wonderful time learning to ride balance bikes.  Through practice with balance bikes, children gain the ability and confidence needed to ride a pedal bike with confidence.

    At Turves Green we teach Phonics through the Read Write Inc scheme. We have been practising our oral blending skills and have learnt the first 5 letter sounds m,a,s,d,t. We have been learning to write these sounds using the letter formation rhymes and have been making and reading words containing these sounds using assisted blending.

  • Reception Classes - Marvelous Maths

    ​This week we have been learning about the composition of numbers 1,2 and 3. The children have been on a hunt around our classroom to see if they could find 2 items. We have been using our stem sentences to help us remember how numbers are composed. E.g 1 and another 1 makes 2. This is really helping to embed the number bonds for these numbers.

  • Reception Classes - Library Boks

    The children in Reception have been visiting our class library this week to choose a book to bring home. They have chosen these books to read and discuss with their parents. These books are changed every Friday. We love to read stories at school and have attached some photos of some of our favourite places to read.

  • Dough Disco

    This week at school the children have really enjoyed doing 'Dough Disco'. Dough disco involves moulding play dough in time to music and performing different actions such as rolling it into a ball, flattening it, putting each individual finger into the dough, rolling it into a sausage and squeezing it. It helps to strengthen the muscles in our fingers and hands in preparation for writing. We have added some pictures of the moves that we have been learning at school so that you can practise at home too.

  • Squiggle Whilst you Wiggle!

    Our Reception class children have been having great fun learning to write with the Squiggle whilst you wiggle Early Writing Program created by Shonette Bason. The programme uses dance and large movements to help children develop the fine muscle control they need for writing. They will learn a new gross motor movement to a piece of music. They will dance using this movement and use it to make marks, this could be in foam, on paper, in sand etc.

  • Year 3 Round Up

    What a soggy end to the week...and we don't just mean the rain! Today's Flexi Friday was a gloriously messy one. As one of the pupils described in assembly, with a gigantic grin on his face, "it was disgusting!". The children had to work together to build up the base to their own Ancient Egyptian Death Masks, using papier mache.

  • Year 3 Round Up

    We've had a wonderful start to the year and the children a re already WOWING us with their learning. It's great to watch them settle back into routines so quickly. This term we kick off with the awesome ancient Egyptians. It's always a crowds pleaser - so many of the children have already gone away and began their own research on the topic.
