One of our pupils was so inspired by our geography topic that he persuaded his family to go on a sightseeing trip over the weekend! He took them to many of the landmarks we've located and studied - we hope he was an excellent tour guide!
We love seeing learning going on at home, getting the whole family involved. Remember to share all the wonderful activities you're doing at home.
We love every Flexi-Friday but this one felt a little more "historic" as we spent the day learning about King Charles III. Many of the children were surprised to learn that he was the first heir to attend an actual school rather than being taught at home. They were impressed by his commitment to charities and the environment too. Classes were able to spend the end of the day preparing decorations for the classroom which we look forward to using next week.
In maths, we've continued learning all things FRACTIONS. This can be quite a confusing topic but the children have shown their resilience and determination as always.
Questions to ask this weekend:
*How do you know 1/2 and 3/6 are equivalent?
*What is 1/3 of 12? Can you draw a bar model to prove it?
*Which conjunctions and adjectives are most useful when trying to persuade someone to come to Birmingham?
*After reading "The Wild", was it right that the little girl returned to the forest? What happened in the text to support your decision?
*Is Little Red Riding Hood's hood roja or rosa?
*Did her abuela live in a casa or a bosque?

Year 3 Round Up Summer 1 Week 5
19 May
Year 3 had the famous "pink headphones" out again today, to launch our science topic...PLANTS :) The children get amazingly absorbed and it's the perfect opportunity to use their previous learning from KS1. We were able to recall the main factors needed to grow plants and could work out the 7 life process from the clues given. The children then worked with their partners to find out the functions of: roots, stem, leaves and flower. We began our own version of a warning story this week and the teachers can't wait to see how the children build the drama and tension.

Coronation Celebrations in Reception
8 May
Reception have really enjoyed preparing for the Coronation of King Charles III. We started the week with a visit from Paddington Bear. Paddington wanted to visit some London Landmarks and we learnt about all of the places that we wanted to visit, including Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. We looked at pictures of these landmarks and found them using Google Earth.

Year 3 Round Up Summer Week 3
5 May
This has been a short but action packed week. The children have been furthering their understanding of fractions by using multiplication and division to find equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions with common denominators. Using their most persuasive techniques, they've each completed their final draft of leaflet to persuade someone to visit Birmingham - they've used exaggerated adjectives, conjunctions to explain and add detail and a range of sentence types to engage the reader. Honestly, we don't know how you say no to them at home!

Reception - Pop Up Play Village
20 Apr
Reception had a great day of role play planned by Pop Up Play Village! We got to use role play to take on the jobs of vets, doctors, builders, shopkeepers, police officers and firefighter. The children had lots of fun learning about different job roles and thinking about what they might like to be when we grow up.

Reception - Easter Egg Hunt
20 Apr
Reception were very surprised to find a video of the Easter Bunny inside their classrooms. He had visited to set us a challenge - to find a tasty Easter treat. We followed the Easter Bunny's clues, using our knowledge of positional language to help us find each clue. At the end of our hunt, we found a basket of chocolate eggs. We took the basket into the classroom and counted the eggs to ensure that we had enough for us each to have one before eating them.

Year 3 Round Up Spring 2 Week 5
31 Mar
It has been a wonderful term, full of firsts for the whole of Year 3. It was a pleasure taking them out and about in the city centre - they were all stunned at how large and impressive the library was! Seeing it all through their eyes is fascinating and opens up so much wonder and intrigue for us all. The children have all been very busy telling the time over the last few weeks.
