  • Year 3 Round Up Spring 2 Week 6

All the children's hard work on their number fluency is paying off...now that we are moving on to the topic of money. Mrs Evans always says that her favourite maths learning is around time, fractions and money as she can really "see the point of it!". Different children have had the chance to shine already as their understanding of money feels relevant to their daily lives. Children investigated different ways to make totals using a limited number of coins.

  • Tour Guide

We love seeing the learning that takes place once children have left the classrooms. Jonah persuaded his family to take a trip into the city centre, to see some of the landmarks for himself. We hope he made an excellent tour guide! Remember to send in any of the activities you complete at home - they will be added to a display where children can see and celebrate their success.

  • Year 3 - SUCCESS

Our school focus recently has been SUCCESS and the feelings it brings with it. For our pupils in Year 3 we've had an abundance of successes: :) My spelling score went up with week ( huge smile) :) I shared my story with teacher in different year groups and got a round of applause (blushing but grinning) :) My Birmingham cityscape looks really cool, look at how I made that curved shape ( waving hands) :) I played a weird game like football but not football. It was so much fun! (bouncing) Success can look different for everyone but, in the words of Heather Small (M-People) it makes us feeeeeeeel prooouuud!

  • Year 3 Round Up Spring Week 2

Year 3 have been busy little bees this week. We've begun writing a new version of Anthony Browne's "The Tunnel", in which the siblings will go on an adventure in a haunted house. It has been wonderful to see all the pupils back in school and ready to go. They've settled straight back in to routines and their best learning behaviours. We started our latest geography topic by exploring Google Earth on the iPads. Children were able to locate the UK by searching for Europe (it was great to see them building on their Y2 knowledge!); they then found the capital cities: Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London.

Over the past few weeks, Reception have been learning the story 'The Gingerbread Man'. We created our own story maps and used these to help us to retell the story. We then emersed ourselves in the story using 'Now Press Play' and took on the role of different characters from the story. We decided to decorate our own gingerbread men using a variety of tasty treats.

  • Year 3 Round Up

We've reached a really dramatic point of our Novel - "The Time Travelling Cat" and we can't wait to find out if Topher escapes and manages to rescue his cat Ka! If your child comes home and asks to have a dig around in the back garden soil, please don't worry! Today they learnt about silt, sandy and clay soil. Using some test results, they found out that clay soil holds on to far too much water (because the particles are closely pack together) which means many of the gardens around Longbridge aren't great for growing plants!
