Admissions
Turves Green Primary School considers all applications in line with our Admissions Policy and Fair Access Protocol.
When we are full as a school, we will have on roll 420 pupils. This is broken down across the year groups as follows:
- Reception - 60
- Year 1 - 60
- Year 2 - 60
- Year 3 - 60
- Year 4 - 60
- Year 5 - 60
- Year 6 - 60
If we have more applications for a year group than spaces, we use our oversubscription criteria to decide which children to admit. The criteria order is:
1. Looked After Children (in public care) or previously Looked After Children (including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted;
2. Siblings (brother or sister who is still in attendance at our school);
3. Distance (children who live nearest to our school - Straight line distance).
Final Qualifier
In a very small number of cases it may not be possible to decide between the applications of those pupils who are the final qualifiers for a place, when applying the published admission criteria.
For example, this may occur when children in the same year group live at the same address, or if the distance between the home and school is exactly the same, for example, blocks of flats. If there is no other way of separating the application according to the admissions criteria and to admit both or all of the children would cause the Published Admission Number for the child’s year group to be exceeded, the Local Authority will use a computerised system to randomly select the child to be offered the final place.
In the event of this occurring with twins or other multiple birth applicants, schools will be asked to admit over their Published Admission Number to accommodate the pupils.
Children with a statement of special educational needs/EHCP Plan
Any child with a statement of special educational needs is required to be admitted to the school that is named in the statement. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the named school. This is not an oversubscription criterion.
Waiting Lists
Positions on waiting lists are not fixed. They are subject to change. This means that a child’s waiting list position during the year could go up or down. Any applicants will be added to our school’s list in accordance with the order of priority for offering places. Waiting lists will be maintained until the end of each academic year.
Appeals Process
Please click here to view the process for contacting the local authority to appeal an admissions decision.
Applying for a reception place for next year
If your child is due to start Reception in September then you will need to make an application to Birmingham Local Authority who deal with admissions that take place at the usual transfer times.
Details of how to do this can be found on the Birmingham Admissions web page (external link).
If you are applying for a place in any year group other than Reception (or Reception as part of the in-year admissions process), you will need to contact the school directly. Please ask to speak to Mrs Belcher who deals with admissions.
We will send you an in-year transfer form to complete. Once this is completed and returned we will be able to advise you whether we can offer you a place immediately or whether your child will need to go on a waiting list until a space becomes available.
