Year 3 round up

3rd Oct 2021

In Reading this week in Year 3 we have explored new vocabulary linked to our text about Amelia Earhart by acting out what the words mean for our friends to guess. At the end of the week we used all our knowledge and new vocabulary to write brilliant diary entries as Amelia when she was on her around the world journey.

In Maths the children have investigated what happens when you add a multiple of 10 or a multiple 100 to a 3-digit number.

In English we have become immersed in the text 'Egyptian Cinderella' by Shirley Climo. We made comparisons with traditional Cinderella before using pictures from the text to create a text map to help us remember all the key events and language.

Flexi Friday this week was all about DT where the children had to investigate how to make an Egyptian Shaduf. They had to persevere to ensure the structure was strong and secure so the lever mechanism could collect water.

After we tested them we evaluated what worked well and how they could be improved.

"I would improve the lever because the pole was too short."

"We were able to move the lever and collect water."

"Next time we would attach the bucket so it doesn't fall off!"
