Year 3 Round Up

7th Jan 2022

It has been great getting straight back into routine with the children this week - we need it just as much as the children do!

We decided to start of with one of our favourite text types, which is poetry. It is such a wonderful opportunity for the children to really experiment with words and language structure.

In RE, the children are learning about the Five Pillars of Islam. It was fascinating to hear the children discuss many similarities they recognised with other religions; we were also lucky to be able to clarify uncertainties with our Muslim pupils. This learning helped us unpick our reading text (Cloud Tea Monkeys) and have a deeper understanding of our class reader "Planet Omar", which features a Muslim boy as its main character. We are already loving the way the story is presented with a mix of text, handwriting, doodles and drawings!

Our topic this Term is Birmingham. This week, we used a mix of maps and Google Earth to find "where in the world" we are! It's a great topic for finding out about our amazing city, and the regeneration of Longbridge.

Question to ask this weekend:

  • How many continents are there in the world?
  • Which continent do we live in?
  • Which country crosses over Europe and Asia?!
  • Can you name and find the capital cities in the UK, Spain or any other countries important to your family?
  • Finish this simile: As she opened the dark, heavy door, Tashi saw stars twinkly like_________.
  • How would you solve 98 divided by 3?

Important information:

3WE will need their swimming kits (suit/trunks and towel in a suitable bag).

3WE will need to wear their PE kits to school next Wednesday (and every other Wednesday after that)

3J will need to wear their PE kit next Tuesday (and every other Tuesday after that), and every Thursday.  3J will swim after half term!

Please make sure the reading diaries are filled in each time your child reads. Get logged on to TTRS and see how quickly they can answer the multiplication questions!

Please make sure your child has a water bottle every day - we are using a scary number of plastic cups for children who forget.

And finally...many children complained of cold fingers after lunch today. If they have gloves, check they bring them every day!
