Year 3 Round Up

8th Oct 2021

Another fantastic week has whizzed by! Thank you to all the families who have logged onto Mathletics and Times Table Rockstars. Every minute helps!

The children spent some time this week finding out about Howard Carter. They learnt about the amazing discovery that made him world famous, and discussed what this taught us about the Ancient Egyptians. We've also begun planning our own versions of "Egyptian Cinderella" - by making small changes to a well known story type. A key skill in story writing, is the accurate inclusion of speech (it helps the writer develop the character and move the story forward) and pairs worked together to punctuate dialogue between Rhodopis and the Pharaoh.

At the beginning of the week, we used Base 10 to help us investigate and explain what happens when we add larger numbers. We were able to model the process of regrouping and renaming.

Our fantastic Eco-Warriors and School Councillors have been asked to discuss ways we can help the planet and charities that school could support. Please talk to your children about this, especially charities which are close to your hearts.

Questions to ask at home this week:

  • How do I add 345 and 269? What happens to the ones and the tens?
  • Why did the Ancient Egyptians bury their rich with items such as chariots, make up and death masks?
  • What has a sandwich or macaroni got to do with writing speech in a story?

Don't forget to wear PE kit on Tuesday and Thursday next week!
